Affordable Sailing Have you dreamed about sailing away into the sunset, or exploring our beautiful British Columbia coastline?  Unfortunately for most of us it is only a dream. The cost of owning a boat is extensive, initial purchase, additional equipment, moorage, insurance, maintenance etc. The Sooke Sailing Co-op makes family or individual sailing affordable, fun and you can learn from others. Try the co-op for a while or for a long time?

About the Sooke Sailing Co-op  We are close to Victoria and the Southern Gulf Islands. We are looking for people that are interested in being part of the Sailing Co-op. Our main goal is a cooperative ownership of boats for the purpose of training, day sailing and cruising for adults and families. Each member pays an annual fee and also contributes time towards maintenance, administration and social events. The cost of maintenance, insurance, moorage and other expenses are covered by the fees. We limit our membership to 14 sailing memberships per boat.

Our boat, Viento, is a Catalina 27 which was generously donated by the Van Isle Sailing Co-op in Nanaimo to help get our Co-op started in Sooke.

You don’t know how to sail?

Sailing experience is not necessary. Non-sailors are encouraged to join. The Cooperative can help arrange Sail Canada Certification programs for Basic and Intermediate Cruising, Coastal Navigation and VHF Radio License with qualified instructors. You are not required to Skipper a boat and can join to crew and have fun. Members also learn boat maintenance and repairs with a hands on approach.

For Experienced Sailors

Have some or a lot of experience?

Sailing experience is welcomed. Once the orientation is complete you can skipper club sails or take the boat out with friends and family. There is so much to do and see around Sooke and in the Gulf Islands.
